About Me

Tracy Nicholls – StatementTracy Nicholls

Tracy’s work explores life’s darker side. Investigating disease, decay and erosion, it concentrates on the fragile beauty that can be found within these states. Conditions such as Cancer and Osteoporosis are generally associated with anxiety and fear, yet, when photographed under the microscope, cancer cells have a vibrant delicacy with almost floral qualities and osteoporotic bone fragments are stunningly reminiscent of lace.

These ideas are realised through kiln formed glass which has an inherent, seductive beauty. By exploiting this beauty alongside the tension that exists between the planned and the unexpected chemical reactions that can occur within the kiln she aims to convey the striking aesthetic and form that is so often overlooked. Her work exudes an absorbing beauty whilst inspiring a curiosity which draws the viewer in to examine the pieces more closely.
